Al-Taj News – Saudi Arabia announced on Friday that it had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched toward the Red Sea coastal city of Yanbu.
It confirmed the interception and destruction of two cruise missiles over the Red Sea, in addition to the destruction of three drones in the southern region and the Riyadh region.
For days, Saudi Arabia has been subjected to near-daily attacks carried out by the Houthis using missiles and drones. The most severe of these was an attack on Riyadh Airport on Saturday, which left 13 people dead and more than 300 injured. It was the most violent attack in the Kingdom in more than a decade.
Against the backdrop of the war in the Middle East, a truce that had been in effect in Yemen since 2022 between the Houthis and Yemeni government forces collapsed in July. Fighting between the two sides resumed, and the Houthis made territorial advances, taking control of the western coast and the area around the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
This coincided with an escalation in the confrontation between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia intensified its strikes on areas in Yemen controlled by the Houthis, and government forces announced last week the launch of a large-scale offensive to retake areas under the group’s control.
